7 Simple Autumn Inspired Foods for Your Mabon Feast

7 Simple Autumn Inspired Foods for Your Mabon Feast

Mabon, the Autumn Equinox, is the original festival of thanksgiving. An important time to give thanks for the food on our tables and the abundant harvest. Prepare a feast for your loved ones and preserve extra fruits and vegetables for the coming Winter season.

Here are some Autumnal food ideas:

1. Peachy pavlova

Our chickens will start laying less frequently from now on so I will make the most of their eggs while we have them by baking a pavlova. I’ll decorate it with peaches instead of the classic Summer fruits (watch my Perfect Peachy Pavlova recipe reel)

2. Apple pie

My favourite Autumnal dessert, I make many apple pies this time of year to use up our abundant harvest. (Watch my Autumn Equinox Apple Pie recipe reel)

3. Stuffed baked apples

Cored and stuffed with dates, walnuts, honey and Ceylon cinnamon simply baked in the oven. Halve them to cook quicker or use whole apples with just the core removed, this works best with large waxy skinned varieties.

4. Roast lamb and rabbit

Our animals that were born in Spring have now grown big enough to eat. For us, this honours the natural cycles of birth and death just like the seasons, as we descend into the darker half the of year.

5. Courgette and walnut loaf

My cousin made the most delicious zucchini bread which was a perfect addition to our feast last year.

6. Seasonal vegetables

Corn, courgette, pumpkin and kumara.

7. Seasonal fruits

Grapes, stone fruit, apples and pears.

Any meals you can think of which are themed around seasonal fruits and vegetables that you can harvest from your garden or buy at the local farmers market will be perfect for your Mabon feast!

What is your go to Autumnal recipe that gives you comfort this time of year?
